About Trinity Roman

Trinity Roman is an oil-based artist from Indianapolis, Indiana. Roman was inspired early on by the strength of the women around her. While completing her BFA at Herron School of Art and Design, Roman centered her artwork around the resilience of women and the challenges they face. She believes that art is a form of creation and creates works depicting worlds beyond our own—worlds that offer insight into both individual and societal flaws. She has always felt a deep connection with people and is fascinated by the unique beauty inherent in every individual. She enjoys creating art that highlights this beauty while also reflecting on the imperfections present in our contemporary society. 

Her current work focuses on women's rights and the resilience of women during difficult times. These pieces challenge the prevailing political narrative, which often reduces women to solely maternal roles. She aims to produce oil paintings that break stereotypes and portray women as they truly are, contrasting this with societal perceptions and treatment. Women frequently face abuse, neglect, and silence in society. Despite these hardships, they remain present, vocal, and strong. Roman depicts stories of empowering women who have spoken out about their struggles. Her goal is to foster a visual understanding between these women and viewers, helping to dismantle the stigma that can leave them feeling trapped.

For these works, Roman creates oil paintings using textured marks and vibrant colors. She seeks to portray challenging stories through a bright lens, capturing how these women felt during their struggles, even as society dismissed their experiences as normal. She considers this a surreal experience and chooses to depict it as such. In contrast, she explores alternative worlds where women have been treated equally from the outset. She envisions scenarios where influential men throughout history have recognized and uplifted women's achievements. For these paintings, she employs subdued, smooth colors. These works are rendered realistically and depict how our world could have been. Roman hopes that viewers—particularly women—will, even if only briefly, envision a world where many of these struggles do not exist.
